Dewsbury Rams’ head coach Paul March has revealed he is aiming to “set the foundations” at the club which will hopefully allow them to compete again in the Championship.

The Rams suffered a miserable 2024 campaign in the second tier after their promotion as champions of League 1 in 2023.

They only managed to secure two wins all season - their last, and March’s first as head coach since taking on the role in May, coming on the final day against Sheffield Eagles.

Revealing his plans to the Reporter, an “excited” March said:

“The season’s just finished but I’ve been planning for 2025 for over the last six, seven weeks, who we can bring in. The team that we’ve got, and with the people coming in, there’s going to be a lot of Dewsbury-based players, a bit of experience in there and some youngsters as well.

“I am excited. On paper, will we have the best team? I don’t know. But we will have the hardest working team and we’ll make sure we will all stick together and work as a unit.

“Regarding league position I just want to set some foundations. There are going to be some youngsters, some local lads and some experienced lads in there.

“And what I want to do for the club is to set the foundations so that when we do go up - if it is next year or it could be the year after - then we have got a side that is capable of staying in the Championship. That’s the biggest thing.

“That’s the foundation for where we need to be.”
