New arrivals will bolster Rams’ charge next term

Welsh international Byron Smith is expected to make a big impact at Dewsbury Rams next season.

Coach Glenn Morrison has wasted no time in building a squad he believes is capable of building on the successes of the last two seasons.

Dewsbury reached the Championship play-offs for the first time in a number of years last season and have improved this term, reaching the semi-finals, where they produced a brave display before losing 33-22 to Leigh Centurions last Sunday.

With Bradford Bulls and London Broncos being relegated from Super League, Halifax having a new coach at the helm and Grand Finalists Leigh and Featherstone also expected to be among the favourites in 2015, Dewsbury have seen the importance of building for the future.

Byron Smith will make the switch from Batley Bulldogs and the powerful Welsh international prop is sure to have a big impact at Tetley’s Stadium.

Former Shaw Cross Sharks player Zach Johnson has joined from Swinton, along with Lions teammate Josh Barlow.

With Matty Wildie switching from Super League side Wakefield Trinity and highly rated full-back Ryan Fieldhouse joining from Halifax, these are exciting times for Rams supporters.

Sam Wood has joined Dewsbury on a permanent deal from the Bulls having spent the latter part of this season on loan with the Rams.

Winger Dalton Grant, who scored 17 tries for Barrow Raiders, and former Salford second rower Toby Adamson make up the Rams new signings for 2015.

Morrison will also look forward to welcoming back Aaron Brown, Wayne Godwin and Greg Scott, who all suffered season-ending injuries at various stages of the campaign.
