Morrison’s Rams should be proud of semi-final efforts

The Rams produced a terrific second half display at the Leigh Sports Village and at one stage got to within five points of the Centurions before their play-off dream was ended.

Dewsbury have pushed the Championship League Leaders Shield winners close in three games this season and Glenn Morrison’s men have earned much-deserved credit from those in the Centurions camp.

Morrison was proud of his team’s efforts but believes the Rams did not produce their best display in the semi-final.

Speaking after Sunday’s game, Morrison said: “We’ve had a good year but we didn’t play very well (at Leigh).

“In the second half we got back to a game plan but I think the situation of the match got to the boys a little bit in the first half.

“We did well and put up a fight and we did ourselves proud over the season.”

Morrison was disappointed with some of the tactics employed by Leigh this season, including when they were up against it in spells of all three games against his side.

Morrison added: “We’re disappointed. I can take losing but I just don’t like the way they play. Whenever things are going against them they (use) cheap shot tactics.

“They did it again this year and they did it in a lot of games and it’s a poor way of playing rugby.”

Attentions now turn to next season, for what will be a very competitive Kingstone Press Championship, with Bradford Bulls and London Broncos being relegated from Super League.

Morrison, who was edged out for Championship coach of the year, has already made a number of quality signings as the Rams look to improve and added: “It’s going to be a tough competition next year and we will need to step up just to be competitive. We’ve got some new players who will come into the squad and a lot of injured players who will come back, so we look to have a strong squad.”
