Morrison vows: ‘We are not ready for holiday yet’

Dewsbury Rams coach Glenn Morrison says his side are not ready to jet off on holiday just yet as they prepare for the Kingstone Press Championship play-offs.

Dewsbury entertain Workington Town in the first round on Sunday (ko 3pm) and the Rams have no second chances, with the losers eliminated.

Morrison is relishing the challenge of the knock-out format and is confident the Rams can pose a threat, saying: “On our day we can be a match for anyone and if we perform we will give ourselves a chance.

“The players are chomping at the bit to get going and we have been playing some good footy.

“We know we face a Grand Final each week. Lose and you or going on your holidays and we don’t want that yet, we want to go as far as we can.”

Dewsbury rested several key players for last week’s final game of the regular season, when the Rams slipped to a 23-4 defeat at Workington.

Morrison believes Sunday’s clash at Tetley’s Stadium will be a different prospect with star man Anthony Thackeray, fresh from scooping a hat-trick of awards at Wednesday’s presentation night, Karl Pryce and Tommy Gallagher all set to return.

Morrison was also glad to see powerhouse prop Makali Aizue get a 20 minute spell under his belt at Workington last week and he is also in the reckoning as Dewsbury are able to pick from a stronger squad than has been available recently.

Morrison added: “We are confident in ourselves, we have beaten all the top boys, bar Leigh, and know we can perform well.

“We are not over-confident and have to take it game by game. If you focus on the bigger picture you can find yourselves out of the competition but there is a real buzz around the place.”
