Morrison vows to turn Rams’ fortunes around

The Rams slipped out of the Kingstone Championship’s top eight with defeat to Sheffield last week but Morrison remains confident that his team will turn around their form.

Morrison said: “The bounce of the ball and certain calls are going against us but I’m sure we can turn things around, get some confidence in the boys and start to see things go in our favour.

“People don’t realise that players are playing out of position because of our injuries but I am confident in the boys.

“I always said it would take time and we wouldn’t be playing our best until the back end of the year but I’m sure when we get some of our troops back we will start winning again.”

Karl Pryce suffered an ankle injury early in the second half at Sheffield, Lucas Walshaw was poked in an eye and had trouble with his vision, while Dale Morton was forced to play on with a dead leg as Dewsbury’s injury list mounted.

Morrison admits he will delay naming his side to take on Keighley to give his injured players the best chance of featuring in what he describes a ‘must win game’.

Morrison added: “Every game is like a Grand Final now. If we win at the weekend we could move up to seventh but if we lose, we could find ourselves in the bottom two.”

A dinner to mark the 40th anniversary of Dewsbury winning the Championship is next Friday when title winning players Alan Agar, Alan Bates, John Bates, Jeff Grayshon, Steve Lee, Trevor Lowe, Mick Lumb, Tommy Smales and Joe Whittington have all confirmed they will be attending.
