Morrison vows Rams will bounce back from defeat

The Rams showed encouraging signs and led 10-0 and 16-6 before Rovers hit back either side of half-time and went on to win, although Dewsbury had the consolation of gaining a bonus point from Tom Hemingway’s last minute penalty.

Speaking after Sunday’s game, Morrison said: “We will bounce back - we are not too deflated from that. I thought it was a good performance.

“We’ve got the desire and we’ve got good team spirit. The boys want to play for each other and I think we saw that on Sunday.

“Wayne Godwin snapped his arm in the first five minutes so Tom Hemingway, who is a half-back, played 70 odd minutes in the middle at hooker.

“He kept going and that’s the sort of boys we’ve got at the club.

“We’ve got to learn from our little errors and kick on next week against Sheffield at home.

“We have a bit of history with them and it would be nice to get back on the winning track next week.”

Despite the set back of losing influential hooker Godwin, Dewsbury produced a battling display and there were plenty of positives for Morrison to take.

He added: “The effort was outstanding and you can’t fault the boys with that but there were basic individual skill areas that let us down.

“I think we killed ourselves in the first-half by giving them so much ball with back to back sets and giving away penalties.

“We went in front at half-time on the back of that but it took its toll on us.

“Featherstone have so many full time players in their squad and they had the energy levels at the end and we just weren’t quite good enough.

“The basic message I kept sending on the field was to go set to set with them. If we went set to set I thought we’d win the game and at even at half-time I said the same thing but we completed at only 60 per cent in the second-half and against quality sides it is going to take its toll.

“I am glad we got the bonus point because we deserved something out of the game.”
