The Rams opened their campaign with a hard-fought 26-24 victory at Swinton Lions and seek back-to-back wins when they entertain Workington Town on Sunday (3pm).

Morrison is wary that every Championship team can pose a threat, as several opening day results proved, and knows he side must be on form if they are to overcome the Cumbrians’ threat.

Morrison said: “It is important that we pick up some wins in our first few games otherwise your season can be over before it has really begun.

“You don’t want to be playing catch up come the end of the season.

“We expected a tough first game and Swinton didn’t disappoint, although we did make it hard on ourselves

“We didn’t play well but two points is two points and people don’t look at how you get them come the end of the season.”

Dewsbury overcame Workington 27-14 in the final game of the Super Eights last season and Morrison is aware of the quality in Town’s ranks.

He added: “Workington are a strong side, although they have got some injuries at the moment.

“They have been in the finals with us for the last few seasons and we have played each other a lot, so know each other’s games well and e know they will be tough opponents.”

Aaron Brown suffered a re-occurrence of his knee injury at Swinton last week, while Jack Teanby took a bang to an eye from the first carry of the game and both will be assessed this week.

Morrison added: “We have got a large squad and quality in depth, so there are some top players to come in if they don’t make it and I am confident in the squad.”
