Morrison praises Rams new signings

Scrum half Anthony Thackeray had a terrific game capped by scoring two second hlf tries, while he also formed a good partnership with new stand off Tom Hemingway.

Shane Grady, who has joined from London Broncos, also showed up well and produced a lovely piece of skill to score Dewsbury’s opening try.

Morrison said: “Shane has only just joined us and was only going to play 10 minutes against Keighley put played 60 and then 70 minutes last Sunday.

“There is still room for improvement but he’s a big fella and with one side and Prycey (Karl Pryce) the other, it gives us some strike out wide and he showed our fans some of that.

“He started playing as a full-back, so he has that footy brain in him, he’s not just a big bustling centre, and he beat a couple of players and showed finesse to score his try well.

“We had two games in four days and we didn’t worry about the results, we wanted to concentrate on the performances and make sure we are ready for the start of the season but we have come up with two good wins.

“We played some entertaining stuff and we have some smart halves there and the boys in the middle also muscled up.

“We needed an 80 minute performance to put a marker down for the season and I thought they really did that.

“The personal skill that Anthony Thackeray has can break teams down and that is why we have brought him in and he did a great job but I can’t pick out anyone who didn’t do their job, I thought it was an outstanding effort.”

Dewsbury play their final pre-season game against Doncaster on Sunday (ko 3pm) before the start of the new Championship season in two weeks time when Featherstone Rovers are the visitors.
