Morrison looks for Rams to build on impressive win

Dewsbury coach Glenn Morrison is looking for his young Rams side to build on last week’s impressive victory over Keighley Cougars.

Having had a quick turnaround in games, with the Northern Rail Cup quarter-final against Halifax last night following just four days after the Keighley win, Dewsbury now have a 10-day break until they meet Swinton Lions on May 26.

It should give time for Morrison to get several of his injured players back into the fray as they aim to consolidate their place in the top eight.

Morrison was full of praise for his side, following last Sunday’s 18-10 victory over Keighley, which saw them move up to sixth place in the Kingstone Press Championship.

Morrison said: “We’ve turned the corner in the last couple of weeks and not been too far away.

“We had an 87 per cent completion rate in the second half. We kept them to zero and got the buzz back in defence and its what we needed.

“I think the pressure will be off now and we can go get a few more.

“The pleasing thing was the defence. We worked hard together and when we forced an error the players were patting each other on the back. We were ruthless a bit in the second half, not letting them get over the try line.

“That’s how we started the season and its good to get the boys back winning.

“We think we should be further up the table than we are but when you lose a couple you do get a bit of pressure and I think the boys have felt that but they’ve got that monkey off their backs and hopefully we will kick on now.”

Dewsbury will look to earn back to back league wins when Swinton visit Tetley’s Stadium on Sunday week before the Rams travel to in-form neighbours Batley Bulldogs on Sunday June 2.
