Morrison delighted with terrific display

Dewsbury Rams coach Glenn Morrison was delighted with his team’s display after completing a Championship double over full-time London Broncos last Sunday.

The Rams overcame London 24-12 despite playing almost three quarters of the game with only 12 men following the controversial sending off of full-back Ryan Fieldhouse.

Speaking after the game, Morrison said: “We have spoken about putting together an 80 minute performance all year.

“We did well at the back end against Fev and I think that has spurred us on.

“With 12 men against a full-time side with a back rower on the wing and a back rower at centre it was outstanding and I couldn’t be more proud of the boys”

“I stayed in the tunnel at half-time on purpose and watched them walk down and watched our boys walk down and I thought we looked fresher.

“We just wanted to complete our sets and play at the right end of the field and knew if we competed 50-50 with the ball we would be able to away with the win, which we did.

“They scored a try from a fumble in the first half, which saw them go the full length, and one from a break and a pass which many gridiron teams would have been proud of and that was it. Our defence was outstanding.

“To do the double over a full-time squad, especially with 12 men was great.”

Morrison also admitted he was concerned for his players’ safety at times during last Sunday’s feisty clash as several high tackles appeared to go unpunished by the match officials.

Fieldhouse was the victim of a high tackle moments before he was shown a red card for a similar offence.

Morrison said: “I think he (Ryan) copped a worse tackle at the other end of the field when he made a break but he didn’t stay down.

“I was worried about the players’ safety out there at times, which is a bad thing to say but I can’t say too much about that.

“I know they (the officials) are doing a tough job but you have got to think about players safety and at times that wasn’t there.”
