Morrison delighted after Rams clinch crucial victory

Victory leaves Dewsbury fifth in the Kingstone Press Championship table ahead of Sunday’s trip to unbeaten runaway leaders Leigh Centurions.

The remaining nine Rams league games are all against sides currently below Dewsbury in the table and Morrison believes his side will be looking to put pressure on the front runners instead of looking over their shoulders.

Speaking after Sunday’s game, Morrison said: “We have had a tough eight games against the top sides and it was important we got as many points out of those as we could and in the last 10 games, we play just one team who are above us.

“Last Sunday was a game we needed to chalk off and we got the win and stopped them getting a bonus point which was even better.

“We talked about picking things up from the last couple of weeks and about doing the basics right.

“We know if we can go set for set with teams we can compete with anyone.

“The last time we played Doncaster it was 0-0 at half-time and we knew if we did that again we would beat them.

“It was 8-2 at half-time, so we were six points better off than we thought and we put enough pressure on to get the win, so I’m really happy.

“Our line speed and defence was back to the best, like at the beginning of the year, and if keep doing that we will be looking up the table.

“We have a lot of quality in the side, not just Thacks (Anthony Thackeray) and when you have people playing direct it opens a lot up.”
