Morrison admits his side were forced to win ugly

The Rams came from behind in both halves before recording a 23-16 victory to collect a second win in three Kingstone Press Championship outings.

Speaking after the game, Morrison said: “I said to the boys before the game that it was going to be an ugly win.

“We had to do the basics right and grind it out but we didn’t want it to be as ugly as we made it.

“We completed (sets) at 70 per cent first half and then 60 per cent second half so it was tough.

“It was ugly but effective and when we look back and see have the points on the board you probably don’t see how you got them, just that they are on the table but we know we have to be better.

“There was perhaps a bit of apprehension there after our last result and it wasn’t as free flowing as we would like but we can look back and try and fix a few things up but we have got the points which is what was important.”

Luke Adamson had a fine game, capped by a try on debut, Rob Spicer also in terrific form and latched onto Anthony Thackeray’s kick to touch down, while the scrum-half scored a trademark try, side stepping his way over.

Morrison added: “Spicer played well and Luke Adamson, on his first game, was also strong for us. We weren’t at our best but we got the job done.

“We now have three games in a week coming up, so we know it is going to be tough.

“We have got a big squad so will look at changing things around and had a couple of boys play last Thursday night (for the reserves).

Paul Jackson, Wayne Godwin and Byron Smith will all come into contention as the Rams now look ahead to a tough spell of three matches in a week.

Dewsbury travel to Halifax on Sunday, then face a rearranged trip to Workington next Wednesday before the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup fourth round.

Morrison added: “Jacko came into our 19 man squad (last Sunday) and we have Wagga and Byron Smith played well the other night.

“We have talked about resting a few so they are ready for Wednesday night as we have a tough period of three games in a week coming up so most of the boys will probably get a couple of games.

“The team will have to get a couple of days off work (for Workington) because of the time we will have to set off and we won’t be back until about three in the morning.

Jason Muranka , along with Brad and James Delaney boys have also impressed Morrison with their performances for the Reserves and could be knocking on the door for a first team call up in one of the next three games.
