Mirfield Spartans set to take on Championship side Goole after first Challenge Cup win

Mirfield Spartans made history as they reached the second round of the Betfred Challenge Cup for the first time with a convincing victory over Woodhouse Warriors.

The 38-4 success gave the recently merged side a flying start to the new season and saw them going one better than last year when Mirfield made their debut in the famous competition.

The Spartans will now be looking forward to a meeting with a professional outfit for the first time and will be aiming to make more history when hosting Championship side Goole Vikings this Saturday.

The newly confirmed National Conference Yorkshire A side earned the right to the big game when they were too strong for Woodhouse, who appear to be destined for the Yorkshire Men’s Entry League.

Brad Jones improved one score while Woodhouse were limited to a Lathaniel Fowler try.

Man of the match was Spencer Peel, with Phil Shotton and Kian Morgan taking second and third place.
