Maun is busy preparing for the new Championship season with Hunslet and will play for the Hawks against Salford Red Devils on Saturday before coaching the Heavy Woollen side against Batley Bulldogs 24 hours later.

Maun said: “It has been interesting as I’d never really thought about coaching before this came up but I think I’ve taken to it quite well.

“I’ve been picking Barry Eaton’s brains at each session we have had with Hunslet and much of the training we have done with the amateur lads has been very similar to what I do in training.

“I’ve been fortunate to have played under some very good coaches over the years and I’ll probably speak to John Kear before Sunday to get some last minute advice.

“I’m really looking forward to the game and the lads are too.”

A 22-man Heavy Woollen side will take on the Bulldogs in what Maun hopes will become an annual fixture, either against Batley or Dewsbury.

There is also reduced admission to Sunday’s game and Maun is hoping followers of the various amateur clubs will turn up in support of the Heavy Woollen Select team.
