The rugby league family was united last week to cheer on former Leeds Rhinos legend Kevin Sinfield in his latest running challenge to raise money and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

Kevin has been fundraising for MND charities by completing yearly 7 in 7 in 7 challenges since his good friend, and Rhinos team-mate, Rob Burrow was diagnosed with the disease in 2019.

This year’s challenge, called Running Home For Christmas, was Kevin’s fifth and first since Rob sadly passed away in June, and saw him run over 50km per day.

March, who is in charge at Dewsbury, told the Reporter Series:

“He is amazing. Even at my peak fitness when I was playing I wouldn't have ever dreamt about doing one in one, never mind 7 in 7 in 7! It has been amazing what he has done.

“He was good mates with Rob. He has raised a load of money and with Rob’s passing it has made Kev and the rugby league community more hungry to make sure we can find a cure for this awful disease.”

Batley chief Moxon added: “It is pretty amazing what he is doing for MND. I don’t know him personally but he achieved so much in the game and he has achieved so much afterwards in retirement.

“The bond that he has with those Leeds lads who were so successful, I can imagine how that bond is.

“It is amazing what he has done and all for a good cause. It is really impressive. He is clearly an impressive bloke.”

Kevin and his team’s week-long journey started in Merseyside on Sunday, December 1, where they ran from Liverpool to Wrexham, before running through six other regions across Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Each day of Kevin’s challenge saw him run an ‘Extra Mile’ event where he was joined by members of the MND community in completing four laps of a running track.

Kevin crossed the finish line in his hometown of Saddleworth on Saturday (December 7) after running a total of 230 miles and has raised over £1 million.
