Ineson produces terrific display in fine Moor victory

Aidan Ineson was star of the show as he scored 24 points in Dewsbury Moor's impressive 36-12 victory away to Hunslet Warriors last Saturday.

It was the Maroons fourth win in five National Conference League outings and leaves them fourth in Division Two having played at least a game less than the three sides above them.

The Maroons started quickly with two tries in the opening 10 minutes with tries from half-back Ineson and Cameron Bruce.

A break down the wing by centre Luke Adamson was well supported by Ineson, who outpaced the chasers to score.

Ill-discipline, which proved costly for the Warriors, opened the opportunity for Bruce to add a second try.

The Warriors goal line defence looked to have kept Moor at bay until a neat drop off to Bruce split the line for the prop to score. Ineson converted both tries for an early 12-0 lead.

Moor prevented the Warriors from scoring in the first half, although the Hunslet defence was credible as they rode persistent attacks from the visitors.

Further Warriors indiscipline in the last 10 minutes saw Liam Brown and Scott Malpas sin-binned reducing the home side to 11 men.

Moor took advantage as the ball was thrown wide, opening up space for winger Sam Thornton to run into and he stepped the full-back and cruised between the posts to give Ineson a simple goal as the Maroons led 18-0 at half-time

Ineson landed an early second half penalty to edge Moor further ahead before Lee Coates replied with a try for Hunslet.

A knock on from a scrum turned possession in favour of the Warriors and taking the ball to the try line, a flat pass from Daryl Gaunt sent Coates crashing into open space.

From the kick-off, as the ball was taken over the dead ball line, try scorer Coates was dismissed from the field for dissent at the referee.

Unfazed, Hunslet settled back into their rhythm and reaped the rewards.

Strong drives from the forwards put Hunslet within range of the try line.

Spotting a gap, hooker Liam Brown sneaked his way through the forwards to bring Hunslet within eight points.

Oliver Ayers put the game to bed with 20 minutes left as yet more Warriors ill-discipline gifted the Maroons territory.

Close to the line, substitute Ayers shrugged off defenders to ground the ball. Ineson converted and then kicked another penalty goal to stretch Moor’s lead to 28-12.

As the game entered the closing stages, tempers between the teams flared with frustration only to climax with an eight point penalty try for man-of-the-match Ineson that also led to Daryl Gaunt and Luke Adamson being sin-binned.

Moor entertain third placed Wigan St Judes on Saturday with them arriving at Heckmondwike Road above the Maroons only on points difference.

The Maroons A team recorded a third straight victory in Yorkshire Men’s League Alliance Division Two last Saturday, as they overcame Stanningley Academy 40-10 to move top of the table.
