Goulding returns to provide Rams boost

Half-back Bobbie Goulding could be in line to make his second Dewsbury Rams debut when they entertain high-flying London Broncos on Sunday.

Goulding had a spell on loan with Dewsbury in 2013 before moving to Australia, where he gained valuable experience with Newtown Jets in Sydney and Brisbane’s Redcliffe Dolphins.

Having returned to England, Goulding has again teamed up with Glenn Morrison in signing for the Rams until the end of the season.

With Lucas Walshaw and Mitch Stringer both making their debuts in the 18-16 defeat to Batley last week, Morrison has bolstered his squad ahead of an assault on the Kingstone Press Championship Shield.

With four games of the regular season remaining, Morrison is aiming to make sure the Rams are in good shape for the latter part of the campaign.

Morrison said: “Lucas is a local boy and showed with the effort he puts in when he puts the jersey on is outstanding and you can’t ask for any more.

“Mitch Stringer came on for a couple of stints at Batley and did well defensively and we have Bobbie (Goulding) coming in so we are still confident of achieving the goals we set at the start of the year.”

Goulding is looking forward to pulling on a Rams shirt once more, adding: “I learnt a lot about myself as a person and as a rugby player whilst I was in Australia for two and a half years.

“I’m glad to be back at the Rams and, even though I know I’ve got some hard work to do, I’m really looking forward to knuckling down and finishing the season strongly.”

The Rams suffered a further injury blow when leading try scorer Dalton Grant limped off at Batley.

Initial assessments last Sunday appeared to suggest Grant had snapped his Achilles and if confirmed he will be out for the season.
