Dewsbury Rams will hand over almost £4,000 to the Danny Jones fund after supporters, players and staff staged various fundraising events.

The Rams held bucket collections, auctions and raffles at two home games in May after the popular Keighley Cougars half-back collapsed and, tragically, later died following a game against London Skolars.

Several of the club’s sponsors, directors and supporters also made separate private donations.

First team player Kieran Hyde had his beard shaved off by team-mate Ryan Wright in front of the North Stand, while other members of the playing and coaching staff helped to collect donations around the ground before kick-off and at half-time.

The Dewsbury Rams Cheerleaders and The Amber Ribbon supporters group also played a significant role in the effort, which the club confirmed raised a total of £3,900.

The Rams also dedicated the front cover of their matchday programme for thederby against Hunslet Hawks to Jones’ memory.

Rams chairman Mark Sawyer said: “The news of Danny’s passing affected all of us at the club and we moved quickly to organise our fundraising activities in support of his family.

“The directors, sponsors, coaches, players, supporters and cheerleaders all worked together to make it a hugely successful period of fundraising.

“The club is proud to be able to make this contribution to the fund.”
