Dewsbury fans urged to wear pink for derby

Batley are staging a big fundraising weekend to coincide with the derby to highlight the plight of the many women who are affected by breast cancer and to support their charities.

Batley are appealing to fans of both clubs to turn the Love rugbyleague.com Stadium, Mount Pleasant, into a wash of pink on derby day.

The Bulldogs players will be donning a new-look pink strip as they take on the Rams.

The fundraising weekend will start with a sponsored walk from Batley’s Mount Pleasant, to Dewsbury’s Tetley’s Stadium and back.

The exact route will be altered slightly to make it into an extended 10K walk.

Dewsbury will play their part in encouraging supporters to join the walk and Rams chairman Mark Sawyer has agreed that all participants will be given a free drink of their choice on arrival at Tetley’s Stadium.

The walk is open to supporters of both clubs and Batley are hoping that 100 people will take part and if each person raised £10 sponsorship then that would generate £1,000 for the charities.

Family members are also encouraged to take part in what they hope will turn into be a fun occasion.

Bulldogs chief executive Paul Harrison said: “The club want to make this a great occasion and raise as much money as possible for the charities.

“It would be great if everyone would get behind the planned events and join in the fun.”

Further details of what should be a fun-filled weekend all in aid of a great cause will be announced over the coming weeks but it hoped fans of the Bulldogs and Rams will get behind the fundraiser.
