Rugby clubs present awards to youngsters

Birstall Victoria Under-7s, Dewsbury Moor Girls and Thornhill Trojans Under-10s all held presentations to honour their young players.

The Birstall youngsters were delighted when the Challenge Cup, Super League trophy and League Leaders Shield were at their presentation, held at Batley Bulldogs.

Coaches Nolan Grinhaff and Josh Wilson handed out squad awards to each of the 17 players, while there were six main trophies.

Max Grinhaff and Harrison Stevens scooped coaches player of the year and parents player of the year awards, while clubman went to Harley Aston for his dedication.

Grinhaff collected a third award when he was named players’ player of the season.

Harley Trapps won the Red and Black Merit Award for his improvement throughout the season and his attitude to training, while Jack Kirkaldy was most improved player.

Siblings who attend games were also awarded with top supporter medals and each parent was presented with a personalised photobook of their child in action.

Thornhill Under-10s’ presentation was held in the Trojans sports club last Sunday after a season which saw them win 13, lose six and draw one of their matches .

First team coach James Ratcliffe offered words of encouragement to the team before handing out the awards.

Louie Creaser won parents player of the season and shared players’ player with Frazer Cass.

Boy of steel was Connor Emerson, most improved Charlie Key and rising star Kieron Haigh.

Coaches player of the year was Harry Yates and clubman of year Rosie Richardson.

Warrington Wolves player George King handed out the awards at Dewsbury Moor Girls’ presentation, with the winners introduced by coaches Shane Hussain and Josephine Blakeley.

Under-15s awards saw Grace Whitehead named most improved player, Siobhan McKinnell was player of the year, Lacie Bruines was players’ player of the year, Courtney Wood scooped top gun and Alicia Sheridan was club person of the year.

Caitlin Beevers was Under-13s player of the year, Lalreb Ajmal was most improved and Caitlyn Johnson was club person of the year.

Former Dewsbury Moor players George and Tom Burgess also paid a visit to the club last week as they travelled round the area during a filming session with Rugby AM.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs stars were introduced to junior players by Dewsbury Moor chairman Peter Charlesworth.

n Dewsbury Moor Under-13 Girls defeated Oulton Raiders 52-6 last Saturday.

Full-back Caitlin Beevers produced another fantastic display, running in five tries and landing eight conversions, and was supported by newcomer Ellie Frain, who crossed for a hat-trick.

Nian Quigley, Paige Richardson, Brook Chesworth, Abbey Harrison, Mia Diskin and Sian Diskin also contributed to the win.

Dewsbury Moor Under-15 Girls fought back from 12-0 down at half-time to beat Oulton 14-12.

Grace Whitehead, Jessica Day, Chloe Crosswaite, Siobhan McKinnell, Shauna Parrish, Caroline Johnson and Sophie Wood defended well.

Tatiana Baide, Allison Sheridan, Peyton Bentley and Amey Heaton set up Moor’s opening try for Courtney Wood before Georgia Copley broke to touch down.

Lacey Bruines capitalised on good work by her teammates to score the equalising try, which Georgia Copley converted to seal victory.
