Rising Sun edge thriller — Ravenswharfe on the up

DEWSBURY Rangers maintained their 100 per cent record in Heavy Woollen Sunday League Division Two with a 5-0 win at Liversedge Albion to move nine points clear.

Bill Phethean and Jamie Beaver both scored twice, with Danny Laidlaw completing Rangers’ tally.

FC Woodman (Dwain Clark and John McNamara) are second despite losing 3-2 at home to St Ignatius, who had James Oakes (two) and Tim Blackburn on target.

Rising Sun edged out Gomersal 3-2 thanks to strikes from Darrell Smith, Luke Turner and Dean Vernon, a result that sees Rising Sun move up to third place.

James Heddon and Kieran Armitage replied for Gomersal, who remain third-bottom.

Ravenswharfe moved off the foot of the table after Stefan Maddon (two), Steve Smith and Andy Marshall earned them a 4-2 win against Battyeford Reserves (Simon Farlow and Jason Evans).

Tom Collins (two), Matthew Brackenbury, Tom Ellam and Charlie Frear all netted in Marsh’s 5-4 win over Taylor while Pack Horse’s home game with Hightown was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

The top two sides met in Division Three, and it was second placed Railway East Ardsley who emerged victorious in a 4-2 win over Barr Street.

Mark Aspin (two), Shaun Hammill and Martin Voellner struck for Railway, with Dwayne Wilkinson and Lewis Tolson replying for Barr Street who only lead on goal difference.

Batley Irish Nash (Sean Housecroft and Andy Smith) stay three points back in third after a 6-2 defeat at Northorpe United, who had Dave Ewart, Luke Williams and Neil Ewart all netting twice.

St John Fisher Reserves were the day’s highest scorers, hammering Queens Hotel 11-3. Jake Gibson and Dominic Simpson both hit hat-tricks, Ryan Prince bagged a brace, with Lee Wood, Andrew Riordan and an own goal completing the scoring.
