Children from 23 schools in the region joined more than 50 coaches and school staff for the 2013 event, held at Sportsbarn on Leeds Road over four days.

Activities included sports hall athletics, Paralympic sports, cricket, tag rugby and football, and were coordinated by the St John Fisher School Sport Partnership and the North Kirklees School Sport Partnership.

Each activity was run by one of the 15 young leaders from St John Fisher: Nick Kaye, Sam Pashley, Connor Vickers, Lauren Micklethwaite, Lucy Cawtheray, Sophie Cardus, Jordan Ellis, Liam Asquith, Tom Martin, Daniel Chatterton, Ben Payne, Matthew Richardson, Will Collins and Joe Maguire.

The pupils also met five 2012 Olympic torch bearers on Monday, June 17 as the Shine A Light torch relay came to Sportsbarn.

Mission Active, which has run annually for the last seven years, gives schoolchildren the opportunity to get into sport, and is funded by local schools since the School Sport Partnership funding was withdrawn in 2011.
