Rams urge fans to snap up tickets

DEWSBURY Rams are urging supporters to snap up season tickets in the coming days as they aim to pass the golden mark of 500.

Main sponsor Eric France Scrap Metal have promised to donate an extra £15,000 if the club can sell 500 season tickets by 3pm on Sunday February 12, when the Rams kick-off in the Northern Rail Cup at home to Halifax. Earlier this week the Rams had sold close to 460 tickets.

Dewsbury are doing everything they can to achieve the figure and have put a deal in place to offer students at Dewsbury College discounted season tickets.

Adult tickets start from just £90 for nine league matches and two Northern Rail Cup games, which is terrific value at just over £8 per game.

Rams chairman Mark Sawyer said: “There are people out there who are still buying tickets.

“We will probably sell a few more before our first game with Halifax but it would be great news if we could achieve the 500.

“It is a going to be very close as to whether we reach that figure but we are trying to attract more people from the college and have offered them a special price.

“The number of season ticket holders we have is greater than some clubs who generally are much better supported than us and the sponsors think it is great that we have already sold over 400 tickets.

“If you look back through history, crowds at Dewsbury have held up quite well and we have done very well to keep our supporter numbers up, probably as good as anyone outside Super League.

“However, attendances at matches don’t keep a stadium of our size going and we also have to tap into the community.”

Dewsbury are continuing to monitor several players who are on the injury list.

Scott Spavin had recovered from the head injury sustained in the pre-season friendly against Bradford Bulls but he turned an ankle in a training session on Monday as his run of bad luck continued.

Ed Barber is hoping to be fit for the opening match in the Northern Rail Cup, when last season’s beaten finalists Halifax at Tetley’s Stadium, and he has had injections for the ankle injury he picked up against the Bulls.

Ayden Faal has seen a specialist regarding his wrist injury but will play through the pain barrier, while Luke Blake was due to resume training last night after an Achilles problem and will certainly come into contention against Halifax.

Dewsbury coach Warren Jowitt said: “The last week has been tough but we are now building towards Halifax.

“Ayden Faal is keen as mustard. He has found some form and wants to keep his place and has declared himself fit while Scott Spavin is confident he will be ok, which is always a good sign.”

Fax are much changed this season after Karl Harrison took over as coach following a very successful spell at Batley Bulldogs.

Jowitt added: “It will be a massive test as they have recruited well. Their new players will certainly want to impress the new coach but I am quite sure that, with the squad we have got, we are capable of pushing them.”

Season tickets are available to buy online at www.dewsbury rams.co.uk or from Tetley’s Stadium through the week. Call 01924 465489 for more details.
