Once again it was in the field events where the Spenborough athletes excelled, with Rosa McKie and Emma Rawnsley dominating the jumping events with A and B wins in the high, triple and long jumps.

Nick Crimmen won the shot putt and came second in the discus, while Glenn Aspindle, looking in good form to defend his Yorkshire Octathlon title at the end of the month, won the javelin, pole vault and 400 metre hurdles.

The warm conditions were challenging to the distance runners but veteran Kevin Ogden used his experience to catch the early leader and win the 5,000 metres. Twin brother Ian won the B race.

Distance runner Tom Dart had a fine debut in the 1,500 meters, coming second.

Spenborough’s sprinters made a valuable contribution with Isaac Kitchen-Smith and Ciara Flannery, both on leave from university, finishing second and first in the men’s 100 metres and women’s 200 metres respectively.

Spenborough finished second to Trafford in the final league table as they celebrated clinching promotion and can look forward to competing in the higher league next summer.
