Park’s treble hopes dashed

The sides were locked 2-2 after normal time but Park missed their first two penalties in the shoot-out and BD3 went on to seal a 3-1 win on spot kicks.

The two sides meet again at Liversedge tomorrow (Friday) in the first semi-final of the Wilf Ward Memorial Trophy, kick off 7pm.

Division One leaders Park defeated Howden Clough 3-0 in their Wilf Ward quarter-final last Saturday with Sam Pickles, Michael Chadwick and Carl Austin steering them into another cup semi.

BD3 United set up another meeting with their rivals after they defeated ALC 3-1 thanks to a Tusif Arshad brace and an own goal.

Fairbank United also reached the last four after dumping out Marsh 3-1 and they will meet West Bradford Spartans in the second semi-final at Liversedge on Monday.

Tufail Ahmed put Fairbank 1-0 up at half-time but although Chris Blackburn equalised with a well-taken free-kick, Asif Iqbal sent Fairbank into the semis by bagging two more.

West Bradford Spartans and BD3 United will also meet in the Sonder Heating Cup final at Liversedge on Tuesday May 3.

The Spartans, along with Park, Fairbank United and BD3, are also involved in a four-way race for the Spen Valley League Division One title.

The Spartans fought back from 2-1 down at half-time to defeat Oakwell Reserves 4-3 last Saturday.

A Barnes (two) and Richard McCann were Oakwell’s scorers but it wasn’t enough to prevent defeat as Phil Homes (two), Danny Davey and Ross Barraclough struck for the Bradford side.

Inter Batley (Ashran Navsarka) and Norfolk (Ismail Lunat) drew 1-1 in the other first division game to take place last Saturday.

Wellington closed the gap on Premier Division leaders Oakwell after they produced an excellent performance to beat Ravensthorpe Rangers.

Although Wellington only had 10 men for the whole game, goals from Ben McCann, Tom Yarnold and referee’s man-of-the-match Lee Speight were enough to seal victory. Mamadon hit Ravensthorpe’s consolation.

Oakwell suffered a 4-3 defeat in an entertaining game with TVR United, who have not given up hope of challenging for the title with games in hand on all the sides above them.

Lee Carter, Gary Foley and Danny Wilson were on target for Oakwell but it wasn’t enough as goals from Mohammed Ismael, Ashiq Iqbal, Junaid Taj and Sarfraz Aslam took the points for TVR.

M Rajah, K Chibda and M Adams were on the scoresheet as Youth 2000 defeated lowly Quarry (Danny Goodlad) 3-1.
