Parish ease fears with fine victory

Terence James struck 81 off just 61 balls, including seven fours and five sixes, while David Blakeley made 76 as Parish closed on 255-7 from 40 overs.

Altofts were bowled out for 100 in reply as Tom Fretwell (5-24) and Nazar Hussain (3-15) helped Parish to a 155-run win.

Altofts are nine points adrift of safety, while Buttershaw St Paul’s are second-bottom following an eight-wicket defeat to Wrenthorpe.

Batley recorded a 27-run victory over third-bottom Hunslet Nelson and they have moved into sixth place.

Batley were grateful to Ayaz Seedat for holding their innings together as he made 78 of his side’s 142 all out.

Warren Ekstraal (5-32) was the key Nelson wicket-taker and they had real hope of recording an important win at tea.

Although Christian Slinger led the Hunslet Nelson reply with 36, they were bowled out for 115 as Mohammed Shahnawaz claimed 4-48 before Sardar Hussain wrapped up the innings with 3-12.

Birstall slipped to an emphatic defeat to Wakefield Thornes for the second successive week.

Having been bowled out for just 90 at Thornes, Birstall could only manage 52 all out at home last weekend, with 10 batsmen failing to make double figures.

Saif Ur Rehman top scored with 14 as Faisal Irfan claimed 6-25 in 12.3 overs.

It took Thornes just seven overs to reach their target, despite losing two wickets along the way.

Methley remain 10 points clear of rivals Townville at the top of the Premier Division.

The leaders dismissed Carlton for 145 with Mustafa Bashir claiming 3-15 before Marcus Walmsley (45) and Luke Patel (48) powered them to a six-wicket win inside 23 overs.

Townville claimed maximum points from a seven-wicket win over Ossett to keep in touch with Methley.

Jack Hughes proved to be Townville’s match winner as he claimed 3-26 and Ossett were bowled out for 165, despite the efforts of John Sadler (30) and Shoaib Latif (25).

Hughes then clattered 73 not out, including 11 fours and a six, after openers Jonathan Booth (28) and Kristian Ward (27) had helped Townville make a solid start and they reached their target with seven wickets in hand in the 40th over.
