Overthorpe School win Archery League

After four rounds of archery, Overthorpe topped the table with a total of 846 points, just 62 ahead of second-placed St Saviour’s.

They were crowned champions and given their winners certificates at a presentation on Friday, April 19.

The Archery League was a joint project with t.a.a.rget Sports and North Kirklees School Sport Partnership, and was sponsored by the partnership to get schoolchildren involved in archery.

Seven schools from across the region took part, with less than 300 points separating top from bottom in a competitive league.

The champions were decided over six hours of archery throughout the school term, the first two devoted to teaching students the basics.

The remaining four rounds put the schools in competition, as they tried to score the most points.

Overthorpe were steady scorers throughout, but owe their triumph to an excellent total of 249 in the third round, the highest of any school in the competition.

Overthorpe have also registered a team into the Annual Junior Schools competition, which will this year run at Dewsbury Sports Centre, on June 29, and will involve 20 schools from Kirklees and Leeds.
