Sykes received 110 tickets and only has a handful remaining as supporters clamber to see one of the biggest boxing bills of the year.

There are three other huge fights as Billy Joe Saunders takes on Chris Eubank Junior, Tyson Fury meets Dereck Chisora in a heavyweight grudge match and Frankie Gavin clashes with rival Bradley Skeete.

Walsh was quoted in an interview as saying: “Whenever I watch Sykes live all you hear is his mob chanting ‘Yorkshire, Yorkshire’ and it does my head in.”

Walsh originates from Rochdale but is now based in Cromer and has a big following from the Norwich area.

He added: “Though most of my fans now come from Norfolk I’ll still have 50 or 60 Lancastrians so there should be some quality banter. I expect the atmosphere to be cracking.”

But Dewsbury man Sykes laughed off the jibes, adding: “My fans are proud of where they come from, so why shouldn’t they shout about it? I know they will be making plenty of noise come fight night.

“For them to travel in such numbers, to a fight so close to Christmas is fantastic.

“I know it’s not cheap, getting to London and with train and coach travel, along with accommodation costs involved, but their support is really appreciated.”

A coach for supporters wishing to watch Sykes take on Liam Walsh for the British and Commonwealth title at the ExCeL Arena in London on November 29 will be going from Dewsbury.

The bus will leave at 1pm on the day of the fight and depart following the top of the bill heavyweight clash between Tyson Fury and Dereck Chisora.
