The championships is the most prestigious event of its kind in the world and Phil took the competition so seriously he stayed in Los Angeles for a week, which gave him the chance to train with some top level MMA fighters.

Phil, who fights out of Neil Hall’s Allegiance MMA Centre at Alexandra Mills on Bradford Road, won gold in the senior heavyweight division. He took less than a minute to defeat an American fighter in the semi-finals using his trademark jumping guillotine choke.

He was against another tough American in the final and nearly ended the fight in the same way but his durable opponent refused to submit.
