Batley Bulldogs head coach Craig Lingard feels it is time for the RFL to make a decision regarding the resumption of the Championship season but has warned there won’t be a solution that will suit every club.

The RFL are expected to decide if the campaign can continue next week, with Super League due to restart next month on August 2.

The top flight will return without fans, with games held at selection of neutral venues, a plan which is not seen as feasible for part-time clubs.

A decision on whether promotion and relegation will occur in 2020 is also due next week but Lingard insists playing without fans is not a viable option for Batley.

“I think it needs the governing body to step in and make a decision now,” said Lingard.

“Everybody is going to try and look after their own house and you are not going to get a one-size-fits-all solution. Teams who are trying to push for promotion, such as Featherstone, Leigh and Toulouse, are desperate to get back and play as soon as they can.

“You can understand that but for everyone who is outside of that situation, it is about finances, which are at a premium.

“For us as a club we won’t come out of this too badly but if we have to play behind closed doors and try to generate income when it won’t be there that will impact the finances of the club not just this year but going forward as well.”
