Jason Walton eager for Dewsbury Rams debut

A combination of injuries and the curtailment of the 2020 Championship meant the former Wakefield Trinity and Featherstone Rovers player was unable to make his Dewsbury debut this year.

The 30-year-old signed a one-year deal with the club ahead of the 2020 campaign but has committed to another year as he eyes a first appearance in Rams colours.

“I wanted to stay because I still haven’t played a game for the Rams yet,” he said. “Hopefully now that I’m fully fit I can show what I can do, I just need to crack on with getting back to full fitness.

“I’m really looking forward to 2021 more than ever, I have some making up to do for myself from not playing for so long due to a few injuries.”

Lee Greenwood feels the forward, who has also appeared for Batley Bulldogs, Salford Red Devils and London Broncos, can still offer plenty to his side, and added: “It has been an extra frustrating year for Jay. Just as he was edging towards fitness, the season stopped.

“He has a lot to offer us and is now even more keen to show us all what he can do. He can have a really positive pre-season now which will lead him into being an integral part of our squad next year.”
