Dewsbury Rams swoop for Aaron Hall and Jamie Greenwood

Greenwood, 22, is the younger brother of head coach Lee Greenwood and was part of the Oldham side which earned promotion from League 1 in the 2019 campaign.

He started his career with Halifax-based amateur side Siddal before joining the Huddersfield Giants academy.

“Jamie is very skillful and talented. He has also shown the staff and players that he has the right work ethic and personality to go with it," said head coach Greenwood of the hooker who will wear the number 19 shirt.

“He was desperate to be given another chance in the professional game after spells with Huddersfield and Oldham and we’re always happy to give people that chance.

“He has played more at No 9 but as pre-season has gone on he has trained more at half-back.

“Working closely with Finny [Liam Finn] and Sykesy [Paul Sykes] he has started to look more comfortable. He is keen to perform well in the friendlies and compete for a spot in the team.”

Hall, 27, has been handed the number 20 shirt at the club after an impressive trial spell at the Tetley's Stadium.

The front-rower has experience in the Championship, having spent time at Swinton Lions between 2018 and 2019.

“Aaron has impressed the staff in training with his ability and attitude," added head coach Greenwood.

"He has improved fitness wise in a short space of time and has shown enough for us to think he will compete for a spot in the 17.

“He knows the standard of the division and is coming into an age where front rowers can reach their peak.

“I know he is happy to have another crack at professional rugby and I look forward to seeing him pull on the Rams shirt.”

Hall admits he couldn't turn down the opportunity to sign for Dewsbury after speaking with Greenwood about his long-term vision for the club.

“I had to join after speaking to Lee about the club, players and fans and the vision moving forward this season and beyond," said Hall.

“I didn’t know too much about the club other than as an opponent and visitor, every time I’ve been in the past the staff and fans were polite and welcoming.

“I’ve played Championship rugby previously with Swinton Lions and also for Hemel stags in League 1. I have also played for England University for a number of years whilst studying.

“The Championship is a very tough league and you have to be prepared both physically and mentally every week as different teams pose different challenges.

“I’m looking forward to testing myself again at this level and proving to myself that I can consistently perform and contribute to the success of Dewsbury Rams.”
