Oakes was on loan at the Rams from Hull KR last term but has now penned a permanent one-year contract with the club.

Highly-rated Carr rose through the ranks at Castleford Tigers and holds the record for the most tries scored in a single season at academy level, claiming 39 tries in just 21 games.

“Lewis has got the potential to be a really good player at Championship level,” said Dewsbury Rams head coach Lee Greenwood.

“He is a fantastic finisher and has a natural try-scoring ability.

“There are areas in his game that he needs to work hard at to be a success but we are willing to give him the opportunity to do that.

“He adds strong competition to our existing wingers and I know Lewis wants to force his way into the team.

“I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Oakes scored two tries in six games for Dewsbury before the Rams’ campaign was curtailed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Oakes started his career in the academy at Super League side Wakefield Trinity before leaving for the Robins as a 16-year-old to pursue more first-team opportunities.

He made his KR debut in 2016 and a year later he helped the Rovers achieve promotion back to the Betfred Super League.

He made eight appearances and scored four tries as the Robins secured an immediate return to the top flight after relegation in 2016.

In 2018, he signed a new deal with the Hull-based club and was previously contracted until the end of the 2021 season.

“As a club we are really happy to bring Will in on a permanent deal,” said Greenwood.

“He was enjoying his time with us and this was showing in his performances.

“He has a point to prove to people and himself next year after leaving Hull KR and that can only be good for us.

“Will has the potential to step back up to Super League and we are happy to help him try to achieve this.”
