Dewsbury Rams sign trialist Alex Smith

The half-back has been training with the Rams since November and featured in their pre-season win over Batley Bulldogs earlier this month.

“Alex has been on trial with us, people who watched the Batley game might have seen him come on. He’s been with us since November and got a run out against Batley,” said coach Lee Greenwood

“The unfortunate thing for Alex is that he got injured leading up to the Wakefield match. We don’t know how serious it is yet.

“He had done enough to earn himself a contract and what we didn’t want to do is leave him in the lurch with no rehabilitation.

“We want to look after people and so we’ve signed him. If it is a real serious injury then we’ll look to work with him to maybe do a contract for next year.

“If it isn’t serious he’s with us now so he could challenge for the half-back spot. He is a young kid, I thought he showed some really nice touches in that game against Batley.”
