Dewsbury Rams' progress a big factor in Reece Chapman-Smith's move

NEW ARRIVAL Reece Chapman-Smith admits that signing for Dewsbury Rams was too good an opportunity to turn down after seeing the club’s progress in 2020.

The Rams enjoyed a flying start to the last campaign, winning three of their four Championship fixtures, including victories over Widnes Vikings and Halifax.

The curtailment of the season meant that Lee Greenwood’s side were unable to build on their promising start but Chapman-Smith, who came through the academy at Leeds Rhinos, feels the Rams is the best place for him to progress.

“Seeing the club progress under Lee last season it seemed like the right thing to do,” said Chapman-Smith.

“Having been down to the club and seeing the facilities it seems like the best thing to do to progress as a rugby player.”

The 22-year-old can play in a variety of positions but he is most comfortable at full-back. The 2021 campaign is due to begin sometime in March and the former Halifax player is raring to go.

“The 2021 season for me is to get some good game time and learn as much as I can from the more experienced players and try to kick on from there,” he added.

“I am looking forward to getting going with pre-season, and meeting all the lads and getting a few games in pre-season to settle my nerves ready for the new season.”
