Head coach Lee Greenwood strongly feels it is in the best interest of his players’ physical and mental health to return to organised team training.

Some clubs have decided to hold off on a return after the Government announced increased Covid-19 restrictions, that are set to be in place until December 2.

Dewsbury had planned their return before the measures were announced.

The Rams fall under the elite sport banner and are still permitted to train twice a week and with gyms closed, Greenwood does not want his players forced to go back to home workouts after such a long time out.

“We are planning to do some training because we have been off so long,” said Greenwood.

“I don’t think, mentally, it will be good to have any more time off for some of the lads.

“With gyms closing again, that is a big part of what you need to do playing rugby.

“For physical and mental well-being, having to go back to home workouts after being allowed in gyms, that wouldn’t go down well.

“We are going to return at some point over the next few weeks and see how it goes.

“If it doesn’t look safe and secure or if we have an outbreak then we can review and close down.

“We have been planning for a while and we think it is as safe as you can get.”

Dewsbury are not required to carry out Covid-19 testing in order to return to training but they will not hesitate to shut down if they feel it is not safe to train.

Greenwood added: “We are very fortunate that we have got our own ground.

“With the timing of the lockdown it means there will be no bookings on the 3G pitch, so we will have the full stadium to ourselves.

“You cannot get more secure than that. It will only be us there. We will make it as safe as we possibly can.

“We are going to get cracking in November, the players have been off for so long.

“We know infection rates are high at the moment but we will be as safe as we can and keep reviewing it. If we don’t feel like it is the right thing to do once we get going, then we will stop.

“We have got our players’ physical and mental well-being to think about.”
