That is the assessment of head coach Lee Greenwood who guided his side to an opening-day win over Whitehaven earlier this month.

The Rams kicked off their season with a defeat in the first round of the Challenge Cup to the Cumbrian side but Greenwood was buoyed by the improvement shown in the league victory.

He feels there is still room for improvement as they take on a Widnes side who drew with newly-promoted Newcastle Thunder in their first Championship match of the year.

“We need to improve on ball control generally,” said Greenwood, ahead of the 5.15pm kick off at the DCBL Stadium.

“Even though we cut the error rate down against Whitehaven, there were still far too many.

“There is plenty to work on. I am still not overly pleased with the defensive stuff but playing Whitehaven at home on a tight pitch, is a different challenge to Widnes away on a 3G pitch.

“That is what we face a lot. Our pitch is narrow compared to a lot of teams.

“The 3G pitch is different so we need to prepare for that.”

He added: “We can go to Widnes with confidence.

“For me, when we go into any game we are capable of winning it and capable of losing it, but as a neutral that is what you want.”
