Dewsbury Rams hoping to sign more players this month

DEWSBURY RAMS head coach Lee Greenwood is hoping to sign a couple more players in the coming weeks.

The Rams kick off their Championship campaign with a home fixture against Whitehaven on Saturday evening.

Greenwood is looking to add some new faces to his squad and is happy to bolster in any position, if a player becomes available who he feels will add something to his side.

“We are looking at the possibility of bringing people in over the next few weeks,” revealed Greenwood.

“It will be one or two players who could come in and strengthen us a little bit.

“Super League has only just started but it looks like there will be a hell of a lot of injuries in the early rounds.

“At the moment, there is not too much available but over the next few weeks there probably will be.

“If I become aware of someone who is available who strengthens our squad, then I will try and get them, whatever the position.

“If it is someone who improves the team then we will have a look at it.”

Dewsbury’s return to competitive action last month ended in a 23-16 Challenge Cup defeat to Whitehaven.

The Rams boss was disappointed by Dewsbury’s display in that outing in Cumbria, branding the performance as “awful”.

With the sides set to do battle again this weekend, Greenwood feels it is the perfect game for his players to respond.

“There has got to be an improvement from that last performance,” added Greenwood.

“It is good that we can try and turn that around straightaway against Whitehaven.

“I am looking forward to getting back to weekly games.

“Next week is a Cup round again, we have been able to focus on this game for two weeks and after Whitehaven we will focus on Widnes for two weeks.

“It is good to get the league kicked off again. It is really good to get off to a good start and get as many points on the board as you can.”

Whitehaven will be without Callum Phillips for the Championship clash, after he was charged with a Grade D dangerous throw in the first round Challenge Cup clash against Dewsbury.

He has been suspended for a total of four matches and fined £250.

Greenwood is hoping to welcome some players back into his squad with Chris Annakin returning from suspension while forward Jason Walton is close to overcoming his injury problems.
