Dewsbury Rams bolster ranks with signing of former Super League youngsters
Dewsbury Rams have further bolstered their ranks for the 2021 Championship campaign with the signings of Joe Wardill and Jordan Schofield.
Schofield, a prop forward by trade, has spent the last four years in the academy at Super League side Wakefield Trinity but felt an opportunity at the Rams was “hard to refuse.”
The 20-year-old didn’t pick up a rugby ball until he was 14-years-old and started his career with Wakefield amateur club Eastmoor Dragons.
“I got given this opportunity that is close to home and with such a good history and reputation, it was hard to refuse,” he said.
“I knew it was a well-run club as my ex-coach Liam Finn has always spoke highly of Dewsbury.”
Wardill gained his rugby league education with Super League side Hull Kingston Rovers.
The utility back signed a three-year deal with the Robins in 2018 but decided to retire from the sport a year later due to having three operations on his hip.
But now the youngster is feeling fit again and he is determined to make an impact with the Rams.
He said: “My career has been very up and down since the start but after multiple injuries and other reasons I took some time away from playing.
“I’m very confident I can get back to fitness during pre-season and be fully fit to play when the season starts which I’m looking forward to.”
