The Rams have been hit by departures and injury problems in the opening months of the season, leaving Greenwood to turn to the transfer market.

Frazer Morris and Jamie Greenwood left the club last week as the Rams signed Sam Wood on a short-term loan from Huddersfield Giants.

When asked if he will look to make any further acquisitions, Greenwood said: “We have got to but it is difficult because you are not going to get many permanent signings available at this point. If anyone does become available then there are a whole host of clubs that need players.

“The loan market is helpful at the moment because you can bring players in for two weeks compared to the four weeks it was before. It is a difficult one and a lot of the coaches’ work at the moment is trying to bring players in.

“We have lost six players since January, who have just departed. So what was looking like a big squad has gone down a little bit.”

Greenwood revealed that the lack of players has meant some of his squad have been playing through injury.

He added: “We have players who have been playing with knocks, but that is how it is. It is a tough old division that never gets easier. All we can do is keep on competing and get the key moments right.”
