Orrell leads Parish to fine victory

Victory was enough to see Parish leapfrog Batley and move up to sixth place in the Central Yorkshire League Premier Division.

Parish captain Tim Orrell led his side to victory, hitting 72, including 10 fours and two sixes as Parish eased to their target in 42.5 overs.

Batley slipped to an 88-run defeat at the hands of Townville on a day when the Premier Division title race took a dramatic twist.

Townville ensured they go into the final four matches very much in he hunt following victory at Mount Pleasant.

Chris Holliday struck a brilliant 156 not out from 118 balls, including 17 fours and four sixes, as Townville were bowled out for 246.

Muhammad Shahnawaz was opick of the Batley bowlers with 4-59.

Sufyan Patel (48) and Sajad Hussain (39) got the Batley reply off to a decent start before nine wickets fell for 53 runs as they slumped from 105-1 to 156 all out.

Jack Hughes (5-32) and Alex Page (4-47) instigated the Batley collapse.

Wrenthorpe inflicted a nine-wicket defeat on Methley, who have been knocked off top spot.

Eddie Walmsley top scored with 82 as Methley posted 225-7 but Wrenthorpe cruised to victory in 29.4 overs as Greg Wood smashed 130 not out, including 18 fours and four sixes.

He shared a magnificent unbroken second wicket stand with Darryl Hendricks (74no) to throw the title race wide open.

Wakefield Thornes have taken over at the top after a 219 victory over Buttershaw St Pauls.

James Wolfenden struck a superb 123, while Faisal Iran (58) and Matthew Jordan (48) supported as Thornes declared on 273-6 after 46 overs.

It then took Thornes just 20.3 overs to dismiss Buttershaw for 54 as Mohammed Rasool claimed 5-20 and Matthew Varley 3-9.

Thornes lead Methley by a single point with Townville a further two behind and Wrenthorpe seven off top spot.

Birstall slipped to an eight-wicket defeat by Ossett and have dropped to ninth place.

Robert Pearl led the Birstall innings with 57, youngster Matthew Dyson struck 36, while Nick Kaye (32) and Malcolm Ellis (27) supported as Birstall reached 181-9 from their 50 overs, with Charles Orme (4-22) pick off the Ossett bowlers.

Will Simpson struck 15 fours and three sixes in an impressive 105 at the top of the Ossett innings, while Gurman Randhawa made 57 not out to complete the win in 28.1 overs.

Carlton jumped above Birstall thanks to a one-wicket win over second-bottom Altofts, who were bowled out for 148 with Ismail Patel claming 5-31.

Jonathan Donnelly (5-29) threatened an unlikely win but Carlton edged to victory at 149-9.
