Openers impress but Heaton halted by rain

Ben Elvidge and Ian Philliskirk shared a fourth wicket partnership of 172 as Hanging Heaton reached 300 all out against New Farnley.

Elvidge made 111 from just 83 balls as he smashed three sixes and 17 fours, while Philliskirk hit 16 fours in his 97.

Former Hanging Heaton captain Mark Lawson has switched from a leg spinner to pace bowler and he claimed 6-63.

Off spinner James Middlebrook signed a short term deal with Yorkshire on Friday but he warmed up for the County Championship game against Warwickshire by claiming 1-56 from seven overs.

New Farnley were going well at 53-1 from eight overs with Scott Richardson unbeaten on 34 when play was abandoned.

Woodlands also piled up the runs, reaching 295-6 against Pudsey St Lawrence.

Jordon Laban made 64 not out, with opener Duncan Snell (63) and Grant Soames (52) also among the runs.

St Lawrence were 38-0 after eight overs when the game came to a premature end.

Champions Cleckheaton looked on course to bounce back from their opening day defeat at Bradford and Bingley as openers Andy Gorrod and Tim Jackson both made centuries against Pudsey Congs as they shared a first-wicket stand of 213,

Gorrod hit four sixes and 10 fours in his 103, while Jackson struck two sixes and 11 fours on his way to 109 as Cleckheaton built a total of 292-6.

Congs made 116-3 from 20.3 overs with captain Gareth Phillips (42no) and Adam Patel (35no) at the wicket when play was abandoned.

East Bierley’s game at Saltaire was building towards an exciting finish when play was abandoned.

Captain Dan Shuffe built on his opening day century by top scoring with 66 as Bierley made 190-9.

Mark and Neil Gill both chipped in with 36 as Adeel Ashraf returned the fine figures of 5-26.

Saltaire’s reply was restricted to 30 overs, during which time they reached 126-4 with new signing Tariq Meboob making an unbeaten 50 and Shoukat Ali (34).

Bradford and Bingley made light work of Lightcliffe to complete victory before the rain arrived and they are top of Division One.

Matt Simpson (5-43) and Noman Ali (4-9) combined to skittle Lightcliffe out for just 83 before captain Phil Slater (67no) sped Bingley to victory in just 11.4 overs hitting four sixes and six fours on the way.

Undercliffe were on the verge of victory against Farsley when they reduced the visitors to 100-9 in reply to their 155 all out when rain halted proceedings.

Scholes lead the way at the top of Division Two having taken maximum points from their opening two matches.

Abbass followed up his efforts with the bat by claiming 3-31 as Gomersal were dismissed for 154, with Mohammed Sharafat leading the way with 5-33.

Hartshead Moor produced an excellent performance in the field as they dismissed Keighley for 146 with Andy Parratt (4-41), Arun Balasubramanian (3-46) and Danny Squire (3-29) among the wickets before rain prevented them from starting their innings.

Bilal Ejaz (60), Adal Islam (58) and Peter Jackson (52) helpedSpen post 227-5 against Brighouse, who reached 36-0 from eight overs when play was halted.

Ben Jenkinson made a maiden first-team half century as he top scored with 56 in Morley’s game at Windhill.

Colin Nuthall (33) supported in Morley’s 192-7 before the Windhill innings was limited to 26 overs during which time they reached 106-4 with Taseer Javed making 47 and captain Zach Wheatley (44).
