Oakwell in seventh heaven at top of Spen Premier

OAKWELL, who lead the Spen Valley League Premier Division, consolidated their title challenge with a 7-1 win over Bradford last Saturday.

Six of the goals came in a first half spree as Jason Elliott scored a hat-trick, Lee Carter scored twice and there was a goal each for Gary Foley and Johnny Beverley.

Wellington, who are third, drew with second-placed TVR United.

Ben McCann scored for Wellington and Ryan Frost had an outstanding game for them.

Ashiq Iqbal scored for TVR.

On Wednesday TVR beat Ravensthorpe Rangers 7-3 , thanks to two goals each for Ashiq Iqbal and Waleed Raja and one goal each for Nasser Hussain, Junid Taj and Farooq Miah.

In Division One BD3 United scored a late winner after a see-saw contest to secure a 3-2 win against Marsh. BD3 scorers were Syeed Hussain, Faisal Hussain and Abdul Qayum Khan.

Howden Clough lost by the odd goal in seven to leaders West Bradford Spartans. Paul Exley, Patrick Bolland, Wayne Cytrian and Ross Barraclough scored for the Spartans.

On Wednesday the Spartans beat Park 6-1 with goals for Ross Barraclough (two), Wayne Cytrian, Adam Wigglesworth, Rob Rowntree and Bobby Canning.

Also on Wednesday BD3 beat Inter Batley 3-1 with Ramzan Nazher scoring for Inter.

On Saturday after a goalless first half Norfolk went down 3-2 at home to ALC.

Imran Farooq scored both Norfolk goals, Andy Morton (two) and Khalid Elsayed answered for ALC.

There were nine goals in total as Oakwell Reserves lost 6-3 at home to Fairbank United.

Oakwell scorers were Richard McCann (two) and Chris Appleyard while for Fairbank Rizwan Mir scored a hat-trick and there were further strikes from Asif Iqbal and Akif Waseem plus an own goal.

Stithy (Ben Wilson) went down 7-1 at home to Park.

On Thursday night Park drew 1-1 with BD3 with Aaron Dewhirst scoring for Park.

In the second semi-final of the Wilf Ward Memorial Trophy, held last Thursday, Fairbank earned a 5-2 success against West Bradford Spartans.

There was a goal after only two minutes for Spartans but Fairbank equalised soon after and took the lead again but the score was level at 2-2 at half-time.

Danny Davey scored both goals for the Spartans bhut it wasn’t enough to prevent them losing.

Fairbank will meet Park in the Wilf Ward final, tomorrow Friday April 29 at Liversedge FC.
