Nostalgia: Organist honoured for 25 years service

One of the longest serving organists in Spen Valley played at a special service to mark his 25 year spell at a Heckmondwike church in 1964.

Brian Marsden, of Cliffe Lane, Cleckheaton, became organist at the Moravian Church in Walkley Lane in July 1939.

To mark his quarter-century connection with the church he was presented with a pair of binoculars and a scroll.

The presentation was made by the minister, the Rev G R Lloyd, who expressed the congregation’s thanks to Mr Marsden at the evening service.

He said: “Everyone has always liked Brian. The binoculars and scroll were presented on behalf of the congregation. The scroll expressed the congregation’s thanks to Brian for his long service.”
