Nostalgia: MP talk about national saint
Batley and Spen MP Elizabeth Peacock spoke at the Spen Valley Society of St George’s 52nd annual dinner in 1984.
“St George was in fact a Roman solider in the third century who was killed for refusing to persecute the Christians,” she said.
“I hope the society can carry its aims on through the 80s and into the 1990s.”
