Nostalgia: Corrie star swaps street for town gala

Coronation Street star Vera Duckworth, played by Elizabeth Dawn, joined 7,500 people who turned out in force for Dewsbury Moor Athletic’s gala.

The record crowds packed the ground to see a variety of entertainment and displays by the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, Thornhill Lees Militaries, Yorkshire Mixture Majorettes and many more.

The afternoon started with a parade from Heckmondwike led by the Thornhill Lees Militaries and actress Elizabeth Dawn.

She was introduced to the cheering crowd by organiser of the gala, Peter Moreland, as “Mike Baldwin’s favourite machinist”.

The club estimated more than £2,000 had been raised, which would be used for the club’s operating costs.
