New signings could boost Sedge chances

Liversedge head into Christmas lying second-bottom in the table after Parkgate battled out a 1-1 draw against league leaders Tadcaster Albion last Saturday.

Liversedge have only played one game in December — a 5-1 defeat away to Albion Sports — and have 22 games left to save themselves.

Anthony Hilton scored his first goal for the club in that defeat but bad weather has seen several postponements and Sedge have not played a competitive match for over three weeks.

They have also not had a home game since defeating Barton Town Old Boys on October 31.

Manager Jonathan Rimmington is targeting the unnamed trio in a bid to boost his side’s hopes of avoiding the drop heading into the new year.

Their final game of 2015 is away to Thackley on Monday (December 28) when Sedge will be targeting a notable derby double over the men from Dennyfield.

Liversedge triumphed 2-1 when the sides met at Clayborn in their second match of the season in August thanks to an Andy Wood brace, although they did go down 3-0 to their local rivals in the West Riding County Cup.

Wood remains Liversedge’s leading goalscorer with seven, despite leaving the club some weeks ago.

Young striker Vaughan Redford, one of a host of promising Under-91s players at the club, has netted five times for the senior side.

His goals have also helped Liversedge Under-19s head into Christmas top of the Northern Youth Alliance League West Division and they are next due in action on January 5 with a trip to title rivals AFC Emley.
