Mount win to cut Heckmondwike and Carlinghow’s advantage

Local rivals Mount managed to record a quickfire victory over Denby Grange as they beat the weather to cut Heckmnondwike’s lead by seven points.

Heckmondwike were struggling in their game at Almondburians when rain halted proceedings.

Mount made easy work of Denby Grange, dismissing the visitors for 133.

With heavy rain storms threatening, U Sacha ensured Mount raced to an eight-wicket victory as he hit 75.

Almondburians posted an impressive 220-8 against leaders Heckmondwike, who had Javed Iqbal (3-47), Jonathan Elstub (3-62) and Adam Holt (2-29) among the wickets.

Paul Cooper led the Heckmondwike reply with 55 but his side were reduced to 115-6 when rain stopped play.

Heckmondwike and Mount both have four matches remaining, with the Huddersfield Central League season due to finish on September 19.

Heckmondwike entertain Bradley and Colne this Saturday, while Mount will aim to keep up the pressure when they host Nortonthorpe.

Heckmondwike and Carlinghow B team’s Section A game against Flockton A was heading for an interesting finale when rain struck.

Flockton were dismissed for 201 as Andrew Pickett claimed 5-35, with support from Kristian Rowan (2-21) and Adnan Rawat (2-23).

Martin Woldron made 31 in reply before Ilyas Hashmi (39no) and Mohammed Hashmi (21no) shared an unbroken third wicket stand as Heckmondwike reached 104-2 when rain halted proceedings.

n Heckmondwike and Carlinghow officials have, meanwhile, confirmed they will be joining the Central Yorkshire League next season, even if a proposed merger with the Bradford League gets the go ahead.

Heckmondwike are likely to take their place in one of two Conference Divisions in the new structure, alongside the likes of Mirfield, Crossbank Methodists and Gildersome.

n Moorlands remain seven points adrift of safety in the Drakes Huddersfield League Premiership following a six-wicket defeat to Golcar last Saturday.

Andrew Fortis made 25 at the top of the Moorlands innings but the visitors were soon in trouble as Tim Welsford (5-59) and Steven Whitwam combined.

Louis Aspelling hit 31 not out late on but Moorlands were bowled out for 123 as Whitwam finished with 4-10 from 11 overs.

Chris Lloyd (3-65) and Darrell Sykes struck three early blows with James Houston, Jack Hargreaves and Jake Lockwood all dismissed without scoring.

Whitam (74) and Welsford (31no) combined once more to produce a match winning partnership as Golcar reached their target in 21.2 overs.
