Mount turn on style to retain Tinker Cup

Maqbul Patel led the way with 62 as Mount posted a useful total of 209 all out, with support coming from Abdul Aziz Ravat (38) and Yusuf Kayat (30).

A Scott (4-45) was pick of the Holmbridge bowlers.

C Thompson led his side’s reply with 50 not out but Holmbridge were bowled out for 134 as Badruddin Patel claimed 3-40 to secure Mount’s second successive Tinker Cup win.

It capped a memorable week for the Staincliffe based club after Mount picked up a Yorkshire County Cricket Club Outstanding Services to Cricket Award last Monday

Mount officials were among the guests at Headingley for Yorkshire’s One-Day Cup game against Warwickshire last Monday.

The county paid tribute to the contributions made by the army of volunteers within community cricket as part of their annual (OSCA) celebrations.

The 21 categories ranged from recognition in coaching, umpiring, league administration, scoring, grounds work, disability cricket, women and girls cricket, young volunteers and coaches and junior representative cricket.

Mount were awarded the George Reah Award for special services to cricket, which was presented to chairman Hanif Mayet for a lifetime’s dedication to the club.

Andrew Watson, executive director of the Yorkshire Cricket Board, commented on Mount’s special award at the Yorkshire OSCAs, saying: “We are absolutely delighted to present this unique special award to Mount CC for their work not only in their work in community, but their work forging links with other faiths which is truly groundbreaking.”

Mr Mayet added: “This award is dedicated to everyone involved with our club during the journey of 40 years.

“We thank everyone for making this day and award possible. With their and input the club would not be where it is today.”
