Mount CC set for move to Staincliffe

MOUNT Cricket Club celebrated another enjoyable year when 650 people attended their 32nd presentation evening at the Al-Hikmah Centre.

Chairman Hanif Mayet, known as Mr Mount, expressed his thanks to management committee members Yusuf Kayat, Nazir Lorgat, Ebrahim Mamaniat and Suleman Motala along with senior team captains Yunus Patel and Yusuf Mia Karolia.

Mr Mayet also announced Mount are to leave their senior cricketing home of the past 35 years, Hyrstlands Park, and from April play at the former Staincliffe CC ground on Halifax Road.

He praised long-standing committee men Farid Karolia, Ali Lunat and Hassan Kayat, who have moved to help run Batley CC and he wished them success.

Congratulations were expressed to the Under-9s squad, with all 60 children receiving a medal thanks to sponsors Batley TV.

The club were also presented with cricket equipment thanks to sponsorship from the Royal Mail and Raje sports.

Host Iqbal Bhana praised joint youth managers Yusuf Kayat, Suleman Motala, Yusuf Miya Karolia and Ebrahim Momoniat for their hard work.

First team captain Yunus Patel expressed his delight at leading the side in an unbeaten season as they completed the double by winning the Dales Council Section B title and the Pool Paper Mills Cup, while second team captain Yusuf Mia Karolia was pleased with his side’s progress from a side, which continued six under-16 players.

There were also speeches from Yorkshire development officer Tony Bowry and Solly Adam, together with a reading from the Quran by Imam of Batley’s Madina Masjid, Qari Saeed Makda.

Young player-of-the-year was shared by Zubair Karolia and Suleman Rawat.

n THE eight-week junior coaching course, sponsored by IMWS and Kirklees, at the Al-Hikmah Centre is now fully subscribed, although Mount will be running their popular outdoor sessions during the summer.
